Nearly two hundred years ago, a machine was envisioned that would have been the first computer. While the rest of humanity failed to grasp its significance, one woman understood its possibility: Ada Lovelace. Born from the scandalous union of the poet Lord Byron and a fiercely progressive mother, Ada was a brilliant mathematician tutored by the greatest scientific minds of her age. She struck up an unlikely friendship with the beleaguered inventor Charles Babbage: the man behind a machine that would change the world forever... if it could only be built.

Driven by gears and programmed by punch cards, the Difference Engine had memory, logical operations, and met the standards of computational completeness by modern measures. Ada’s notes described its potential; in many ways, she described the future we now inhabit. A visionary and a genius misunderstood by her time, nimbus presents the forgotten story of Ada Lovelace, the world’s first computer programmer, coming to the Crane Theater in April.
