Hang on to your stovepipe hats, Fortune’s Fool followers! On September 6, we open the world premiere pf LINCOLN’S CHILDREN, a riveting new play by Chicago area playwright Mike McGeever. Prolific actor and director Duck Washington will direct.
In LINCOLN’S CHILDREN, Montgomery Mathers (Jeremy Motz), is a white history professor whose first book on Lincoln was an acclaimed best-seller. But he’s lost his touch. To help him research his upcoming book about Lincoln’s neighbors, he hires a brilliant Black graduate student named Chloe Waters (Kyra Richardson). But she has a secret agenda: to document her belief that Lincoln is her ancestor.
As Chloe fights for her job and the right to tell her own story, white privilege meets unorthodox methods of underrepresented people to learn their history, and sparks fly. Race, gender, class, academic politics, and the value of the oral tradition vs. the power of the written document all figure into the battle!
Featuring Winifred Froelich, Scott Gilbert, Dawn Krosnowski, Jeremy Motz, Nicholas Nelson, Ariel Pinkerton, and Kyra Richardson (pictured above).
Set design by Keven Lock, costumes by CJ Mantel, lighting by Ariel Pinkerton, prop design by Terri Ristow, sound design by Christy Johnson, and intimacy direction by Anthony Sisler-Neuman.
Come see a show that will make you laugh, make you think, and keep you talking about it for days! Come see LINCOLN’S CHILDREN!
